If the traffic peak coincides with the peak of the Pacific timezone then that can quickly identify the main audience. A brief, high peak may indicate a scan by a robot, perhaps a search engine building an index for the web site. The traffic profile will indicate when to do site maintenance or when to increase available bandwidth.
